A listening experience is a real-time laboratory for running audio experiments that draw the listener out of everyday experience and into a brief encounter with the transcendent possibilities of sound. It is the presentation of listening objects.
I think of listening experiences as something distinct from musical performance. They are a type of performance, but intended to be more engaging and immersive that traditional performer/audience activity.
An approach to creating listening experiences that I like was demonstrated in the Immersion event series. PopUpAcousmatic is another approach. Common to these is my ongoing interest in exploring the quadraphonic listening space.
